The Year They Burned the Books

High school senior Jamie Crawford has achieved her goal of being named editor of the school paper. However, when she writes an editorial supporting the school's new health education classes, which includes the free distribution of condoms, she sets off a controversy that has far-reaching repercussions. To further complicate matters, the newest school board member has conservative opinions which include completely changing the health education curriculum banned book in schools and banning certain books from the school library. Abbie Hoffman's STEAL THIS BOOK was turned down 30 times before it was finally published in 1970. It was banned in Canada, banned book in schools and many stores in the US refused to carry it.
